Gary Xie

Gary graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied Social Welfare & Public Policy. During his time at Cal, Gary interned with the Golden State Warriors Community Foundation. He also studied abroad in Hong Kong for a semester. Gary speaks English and Cantonese, which allows him to bridge many diverse communities. Being born and raised in Oakland, Gary’s passion for community empowerment began in high school with the Asian Youth Services Committee (AYSC). He volunteered with AYSC for two years before serving on its board as a Sergeant at Arms during his senior year. Following high school, Gary continued his involvement with the organization as a college youth advisor for five years before transitioning into a full-time adult advisor role. With over a decade of experience in the Oakland Chinatown community and nonprofit world, Gary is dedicated to empowering his community and hopes to be a lifelong resource to Oakland. Outside of work, Gary enjoys staying active by playing golf and basketball. He is a huge basketball enthusiast and a lifelong fan of the Golden State Warriors. His favorite players are Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard.
